Christian Renaud discovered drumming at the age of 13, upon entering high school. Quickly passionate, he got involved in his school’s concert band while taking private lessons with Charles Allicy (pop drummer) and Michel Viau (classical percussionist). This dual training gave him a strong foundation that led him to pursue higher studies in jazz drums at Cégep Marie-Victorin, where he studied with Alain Bastien and Christian Pamerleau, followed by a bachelor’s in jazz performance at the Université de Montréal with Gilbert Fradette.
In 2016, Christian won the Francouvertes competition with the band La Famille Ouellette, opening the door to major festivals such as Osheaga, the Festival d’été de Québec (FEQ), Le Festif!, and the Festival de la poutine. The following year, the band released the album Deluxe.
In 2018, La Famille Ouellette became the house band for the TV show Le Show de Rousseau, broadcast on Vtélé. They produced 100 episodes in one year.
In 2019, following their television success, La Famille Ouellette became the house band for the francophone galas of Juste pour rire (Just For Laughs).
In 2021, Christian joined Dumas’s Le cours des jours tour, a memorable series of concerts celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic album of the same name. That same year, La Famille Ouellette was the house band for the variety comedy show Sans rancune, aired on TVA, featuring Pier-Luc Funk, Hélène Bourgeois-Leclerc, and Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais.
Since 2022, he has been performing during the second intermission of Laval Rocket games—an event he contributes to every year.
In 2023 and 2024, he hit the road again with Dumas for the Cosmologie tour, and also appeared in the show On ramassera demain, broadcast on Télé-Québec, still with La Famille Ouellette.
